Preschool Summer Reading
Lower School Summer Reading
Lower School Math
In order to keep our math skills sharp over the summer, we are adding a math component to our summer learning program for rising 2nd-6th graders. Our math piece will consist of personalized, online skill practice on Khan Academy. Khan Academy has a diverse set of practice activities through college level math, and the specific skills suggested will be reviewed or advanced based on your student’s specific needs.
Instead of setting up accounts on Khan Academy, we will be using our school Google Apps for Education domain. By accessing Khan Academy through their HSP Google account, students will be taken directly to lessons customized for their specific grade. During the last month of school. the students practiced accessing their Khan Academy link through their Google account.
The summer math practice on Khan Academy will count as a math grade this fall. Teachers will verify students practiced their math skills for the following number of minutes:
Rising 2nd-3rd graders: 120 minutes.
We recommend a minimum of two 10 minute sessions per week, for six weeks.
Rising 4th-6th graders: 240 minutes.
We recommend a minimum of two 20 minute sessions per week, for six weeks.
While we will be looking at the total time spent on Kahn Academy this summer, spreading the practice over the six weeks will help solidify these essential skills in long term memory. Students can access their number of minutes completed on Kahn Academy by clicking the "progress" tab. Please encourage your child to have fun with this individualized, online summer math study!
