The Modern Language Department at Holy Spirit Prep

Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish National Honor Society) & Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad (Junior Spanish National Honor Society) The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, was formally organized in the year 1953. The name of this chapter is El Espiritu Santo. The Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad, also sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, was formally organized in the year 2000. The name of this chapter is Monsenor Dillon. The purposed of the Society is to promote cross-cultural acceptance and understanding and to encourage service to school and community. Spanish language students are eligible to be inducted into the Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad if they meet the following criteria: Are a current 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade student enrolled in Spanish for at least 1 semester Maintain an unweighted average of 90 or above throughout the school year Spanish language students are eligible to be inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica if they meet the following criteria: Are a current 10th, 11th or 12th grade student enrolled in Spanish for at least 1 semester Maintain an unweighted average of 90 or above throughout the school year An induction ceremony is hosted at the end of each school year where students are presented with certificates and pins. As long as the student continues taking Spanish and maintains an average of 90 or above, the student will remain a member. If at any point in the student’s career that he or she is not a Spanish student at HSPS, the student is no longer a member of the Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad.
