THE SETON CENTER
The Seton
Center has been established at Holy Spirit Preparatory School to serve
academically gifted students in 3rd through 6th grades. Enrollment in
the Seton Center is elective and complementary to an enhanced range of
academic enrichment opportunities provided throughout the school day for
all gifted students through the school's differentiated learning
program. Additional enrichment activities are available after school
through the Seton Center Club.
PARTICIPATION &
ENROLLMENT
The
participation requirements for the Seton Center are modeled on the Duke
University TIP program and require that the student earned a total
composite score at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level
standardized achievement test within the past year, or on a mental
ability test battery taken within the past two years (or 125 or above
total composite on an IQ administration within the past two years). A
recommendation from the student's homeroom teacher is also a criterion
for program participation.
Eligibility
for enrollment is an honor and indicates outstanding intellectual
ability. Enrollment carries a responsibility to participate in and
complete the academic enrichment challenges that are offered, and Center
members are committed to an additional 2 to 3 hours a week of
out-of-class academic work.
Grade-level
teachers and assistants collaborate in the planning of research and
writing projects taught in the Seton Center. Learning modules run four
weeks in length, with a week off between modules. Learning modules run four weeks in length, with a week off between modules.
