Religious Education and Theology Department Philosophy
Religious Education at Holy Spirit Preparatory School gives students the opportunity to establish and strengthen their relationship with Christ. Since the individual student’s journey in faith is ongoing, the level of Faith education escalates as the student matures. The curriculum is comprehensive, delving deeper into the teachings of the Church each year. In this way, students discover both Christ’s infinite love and desire to accompany mankind in everyday life. Growing in their knowledge and love of Christ, the students gain an understanding of the Church as God’s instrument for sanctification and salvation.

The Religious Education Department is committed to ensuring that the students receive a comprehensive Catholic education that is faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Religious formation is fundamental to the core curriculum at Holy Spirit Preparatory School, and, therefore, students are required to take Religious Education courses every year. In addition, students may take Theology courses as electives.

Holy Spirit Preparatory School’s Theology Department exists as a sub-department of Religious Education. Theology is the science that investigates the content of belief by means of reason enlightened by faith. Theological study fundamentally maintains the intimate and complementary relationship between faith and reason because both the inquiries of reason and the doctrines of faith share as an end the same truth.

The Theology curriculum complements and augments the core Religious Education curriculum by instilling a fuller and deeper knowledge of the fundamentals of the Catholic faith. Various courses in the areas of dogmatic and natural theology will be offered, with each course emphasizing reading, writing, and discussion. Study emphasizes Holy Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Church documents, and writings of the early Fathers and the Doctors of the Church, particularly, St. Thomas Aquinas.
