Personalized Learning at Holy Spirit Prep

Student Success Program
The Student Success Program was developed to meet the needs of every student. The student needs are met by classroom assessment, as well as, standardized testing analysis. After scores are received each year, strengths are recognized and incorporated into the ongoing student success plan.

In the Upper School, each student is assigned an academic mentor responsible for working with the student to ensure a selection of courses and reading materials that will lead towards the student's academic, vocational or professional goals. In the 7th and 8th grades students have the opportunity to receive additional advancement in Mathematics and Spanish and to undertake Honors level work in any or all subject areas. In the 9th grade students may supplement Honors level studies and the pursuit of Latin by selecting an elective in Robotics or additional or alternate modern language electives roving as far afield as Arabic and Mandarin Chinese. In the 10th grade and thereafter students may further supplement Honors level work by pursuing a study of Classical Greek and commencing study in a wide range of advanced placement and elective study areas ranging from Astronomy, Drama, Photography and Ceramics to Theology, Calculus, Forensics and Genetics. At Holy Spirit Prep. our Upper School program is truly personalized to the aptitude and interests of our individual students.

The Lower School Student Success Director works with the classroom teachers to ensure that they have educational resources to individually challenge each student at their appropriate developmental and ability level. This personalization is incorporated into all subjects. All students in grades K-5 receive Personalized Learning Goals (PLG) throughout the year. The PLG's focus on academic, spiritual and behavior/character development. The goals are a motivational tool to help students achieve success in the classroom. The classroom teacher writes the goals, but the students are involved in their formulation and implementation. The Scholastic Reading Program is incorporated as a supplemental individualized reading assessment. This program allows students to read books of interest and take computer comprehension quizzes. As comprehension ability increases, so does the reading level and consequently the vocabulary. Scholastic is a motivational reading program that turns students into avid readers and boosts reading ability. Students in 6th Grade are afforded additional privileges and challenges as they prepare for the transition to Junior High School. Included among the challenges is the opportunity to take Honors level work in most academic classes and to pursue accelerated studies in mathematics.
