Information Technology
Holy Spirit Preparatory School is committed to technological excellence. Our faculty are issued wireless laptop or wireless tablet computers to leverage their personal productivity and creativity and have access to "Smart Board" and other cutting edge educational technology. At the Pre-School our students enjoy both Apple and PC computers running educational software to familiarize them with computer usage and introduce them to keyboarding skills. At the Lower School our students enjoy classroom computers, a computer laboratory, computer terminals in the Media Center, wireless laptop computers for classroom assignments and Palm PDA's at 6th grade. Students in the Lower School learn essential computer and productivity skills together with an introduction to computer programming through the Lego Robotics program. The upper school campus is a wireless environment and all high school students utilize wireless laptop computers to allow them to work both collaboratively and independently throughout the campus and at home. The administration communicates with the Upper School student body via e-mail on a daily basis. While laptop computers are routinely utilized as a day to day tool throughout the Upper School students may elect to study various areas related to Information Technology including Web Design, Computer Programming and "IT-Robotics"; an innovative Freshman course that combines physics, engineering and computer programming. Wireless laptops can also serve as language laboratories to assist in the study of foreign and classical languages. We stress an ethical approach to computer use in general and Internet access in particular and impress upon our students the importance of making individual usage choices that conform to the teachings and disciplines of our Catholic faith. We utilize a wireless 802.11G standard throughout our campuses. Access to the Internet is protected by industry leading Internet Content Filtering technology including Soft for You and Cerberian. Our firewall appliances including CISCO PIX and SONICWALL are equal in robustness to those utilized in Fortune 500 companies.
