Music Department Philosophy Our student musicians have a thorough curriculum in which to select from. Students who are interested in the mechanics and fundamental components of composition, the Music Department offers two semesters of entry-level Music Theory. These courses discuss the comprehension of learning basic theoretical concepts, compositional techniques, and learning how to use Finale composition software. For students who are seeking advanced courses in musical study, the Music Department offers a year-long AP Music Theory course that covers material on track with an entry-level collegiate course. In addition to Theory, Music Performance classes will be offered starting Fall of 2008. Classes of Performance are for instrumental students who seek to play music an ensemble setting. Each Music Performance class is open to students of string, wind, and percussive backgrounds. Each of these courses are taught by Mr. Jeremy Gibson, Chair of the Music Department. Vocal students are afforded the opportunity to perform in our weekly celebrations of Mass in the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Led by Ms. Meg Hunter-Kilmer, the Liturgical Choir is available for all students at the Upper School. Performance in the Liturgical Choir is another example of how the School affords our students several opportunities to spiritually express themselves. The Liturgical Choir is over forty students strong, and make a significant spiritual impact as our vocal leaders of the student body. Our Mass hymns are comprised of English, Spanish, Greek, and Latin texts. |
