Since its inception, the school has been owned and operated as an Independent Catholic School by a Georgia non-profit corporation, which is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax exempt organization. The school is approved by the Archbishop of Atlanta as a lay sponsored Catholic school, and listed as such in the Official Catholic Directory. The school is not sponsored, supported or otherwise controlled by any religious order or congregation. Both of the campuses were purchased by the school, the lower school campus from an existing private school, the upper school campus from Holy Spirit parish. The relationship between the school and the Legionaries of Christ is an agreement, which can be cancelled at will by either side, for the provision of a Head Chaplain, who must be approved by the board of the school before being appointed by the President. The Chaplain reports directly to the President. Retired Archbishop John F. Donoghue serves as Rector of the school. The self-perpetuating board of the school currently comprises the Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish as Board Chair, the Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish, four current parents, one former parent, one Holy Spirit parishioner and the President and Head Chaplain who serve as non-voting ex-officio board members. In accordance with accreditation standards the board sets broad policy guidelines and appoints the President of the school, who is responsible for its operation. |
