Need-Based Financial Assistance for 2012-2013

For grades Kindergarten through High School
Need-based Financial Assistance information and instructions can be found by clicking here. If you did not receive Financial Assistance for the 2011-2012 school year, but anticipate needing assistance for 2012-2013 school year, please (1) complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) through School & Student Services, (2) send your 2010 Federal Tax Return, including W-2's and schedules, to Kelly Sickafoose at the Upper School, and (3) submit your re-enrollment invitation(s) to Holy Spirit Preparatory School with the appropriate deposit. Should you choose to apply for Need-based Financial Assistance, please note, the deadline to submit all paperwork is December 31, 2011.

GOAL Scholarships PK4 through High School
Families who apply for Need-based Financial Assistance and have a child entering PreK-4, Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade (or any grade by way of transfer from a public school) are automatically considered for the GOAL scholarship. If you would like to be considered for GOAL please complete the Need-based Financial Assistance process as explained above as soon as possible as we have very limited uncommitted funds being held for our school and you will only have priority for a GOAL scholarship until December 31, 2011.

Financial Aid Information

1)     Providing Financial Aid is an important element of Holy Spirit Preparatory School’s mission as we strive to promote social and economic diversity within our school community.  Financial aid applications and determinations are confidential to the staff members that need to be involved in the aid process.

2)     As an independent Catholic school HSP does not have access to tuition assistance funding from the Archdiocese of Atlanta and meets tuition assistance needs from donations and operating income. As steward of the finite pool of monies made available for tuition assistance HSP has to ensure that assistance is targeted to the families with the greatest need. As a consequence of the limited funding available, tuition assistance is granted to a maximum of 50% of the total tuition bill payable (although as the tuition bill includes expenses such as the lunch program, the maximum assistance provided significantly exceeds 50% of the actual tuition costs). All completed applications for financial aid reenrollment that are received at the school with the appropriate deposit prior to midnight on December 31, 2011 will receive priority allocation of the budgeted funds. New applications and reenrollments qualified to receive aid but received after that deadline will receive assistance subject to funds remaining available within the allocated budget.

3)     The information requested in the application for financial aid is intended to be as non-intrusive as is realistic given the need for sufficient data to assess a family’s need. Regardless of the limited information sought in the application, families are expected to pay tuition from resources available to their family even if such resources are not specifically identified during the application process. In many cases, Grandparents and other relatives are able and pleased to assist with funding tuition and it is assumed that families will prioritize educational expenses over discretionary expenditure and savings/investments and utilize available resources in order to minimize the level of aid required from the school community.  Divorced/separated/unmarried parents should complete a financial aid form in respect of each parent unless there has been a judicial determination that one parent has no responsibility for the maintenance of the child.

4)     The initial need-based financial aid is based upon an estimation of the income and assets available to the student’s family during the relevant school year and is based upon prior tax-year data. At the time of applying for need-based financial aid the family must supply all applicable prior year information. The aid is an interim grant and is subject to adjustment thereafter.

5)     If the family’s financial situation improves or worsens between applying for financial aid and the end of the school-year for which financial aid is granted the school should be notified and the aid will be reviewed. In addition to the prior year information supplied at the time of application the school may subsequently request verification of actual income for the school-year for which the aid is granted. Failure to supply requested information may cause the need-based financial aid to be voided for all or a part of the school-year.

6)     Need-based financial aid is contingent upon acceptable attendance which is defined as no more than 5 unexcused tardies and 5 unexcused absences (including early check-outs) in any semester. Tardies and/or absences exceeding these numbers may result in suspension or cancellation of financial assistance.

7)     Need-based financial aid is contingent upon the student maintaining an acceptable disciplinary record and completing all required community and school service hours in a timely manner. A disciplinary infraction resulting in an in-school suspension (ISS) may result in suspension or cancellation of the grant while a disciplinary infraction resulting in an out of school suspension or a second ISS in one semester will usually result in cancellation of financial assistance.  Repeated infractions that do not individually merit an ISS or out of school suspension but which are indicative of systematic poor behavior and/or are disruptive to the school community may also result in suspension or cancellation of the aid.

8)     Need-based financial aid is contingent upon the student maintaining an acceptable level of academic achievement. This will vary according to the student’s individual ability and circumstances however, a student that is regularly failing to complete class work and/or homework or otherwise willfully failing to achieve their academic potential and/or has a quarter-end grade of D or F in a class may have their grant suspended, cancelled or made subject to conditions.  Students that are in danger of losing their need-based financial aid as a result of unacceptable academic performance will be notified and given an opportunity to remedy any deficiencies.

9)     Need-based financial aid is contingent upon the student carrying a full academic load unless they have enrolled for a reduced course-load with the agreement of the school.

10)  Families who receive financial aid are expected to support the school community by contributing to the GOAL Scholarship program and Annual Fund to the extent of their financial ability.
