Studio I - FA310
Studio Art I is a full year course that is an introduction to art as both an action and a history. In this course you will begin to explore the many forms and mediums of visual art. You will gain a basic understanding of the elements of art and the function of art in contemporary society. This course will cover a general timeline of artists, movements and trends in art history. You will also begin to address critical issues in art through personal and group critiques of both your own and master works. The main focus of this course is to create and broaden your artistic experience.

Studio II – FA320
The first semester Studio Art 2 is a continuation of the skills and practices learned in Studio Art I. You will again explore many mediums, trends, and styles. By the 3rd project you will begin to focus your work in one medium. More focus will be placed on theme and content. Study of historical periods and movements will be deeper and self directed as each student will present on several artistic movements through out the semester. You will again address critical issues in art through personal and group critiques with more attention paid to content and form. The main focus of this course is to deepen your artistic experience and to begin to develop your personal style.

Film Photography – FA330
The second semester FA330 is an introduction to both the artistic and technical aspects of photography using the digital, color print and B/W negative formats. In this class, you will explore the elements of art and how they relate to the photographic medium.. You will be introduced to different themes in photography as a fine art and as a commercial art form. This course is meant to serve as an introduction to all photography with a focus on black and white developing. The goals for this class are for each student to have, by the end of the semester… Learned the basic operation of an SLR camera, Know how to download a digital image, Know the basic technique of developing B/W film, Printed their own photograph on the enlarger, Understand how exposure makes a photograph, Experience at least 10 different master photographers.

Studio III – FA325
The full year Studio Art 3 is a continuation of the skills and practices learned in Studio Art I and II. In this course, you will again explore many mediums, trends, and styles. However, more focus will be placed on theme and content. Specifically, focus will be on peer critique and development. This will be done with each student completing project evaluations after each major project for another member of the class. The main focus of this course is to prepare students for art on the college level by exploring the studio as an academic entity.

Progression Sequence for Art Courses:
Required courses:
  7th grade – Lyceum focus on Greek and Roman Art
  8th grade – Lyceum focus on Egyptian Art
  9th grade – Lyceum focus on Renaissance
Art Electives:
  9th or 10th grade – Studio I – Intro to the elements of art and basic techniques
  10th or 11th grade – Studio II – Application of the elements of art to composition
  and design. Exploration of new mediums.
  10th or 11th grade – Film Photography – Introduction to black and white
  development, color slide and alternative processes. Overview of the elements as
  the relate to photographic composition.
  11th or 12th grade – Studio III – Development of theme and content. Focus
  on mastery of technique and personal expression.
