Mrs.
Sharon Higgins - Director of Admissions
Mrs. Higgins graduated from
Penn State University with a B.A. in Liberal Arts, earned an MBA in Finance from
Georgia State University, and she has a Certification in Developmental
Observation from the Gesell Institute, a Certification in Enrollment Management
in from Catholic School Management, Inc, and a Certification in Child
Developmental Disorders from Summit Professional Education. She was raised in
Pennsylvania and moved to Atlanta in 1995. Mrs. Higgins and her husband Dan have
been members of Holy Spirit Parish since 1997 and Mrs. Higgins has served as a
Lector since 2000. Mrs. Higgins was previously Holy Spirit Prep’s Admissions
Coordinator before being appointed as Admissions Director during the 2004/2005
school year. Mrs. Higgins has 2 daughters; Sarah in Holy Spirit Preparatory
School’s Class of 2020 and Riley in Holy Spirit Prep’s Class of 2024.
Mrs. Jessica Kaeding - Assistant to the Director of Admissions
Mrs. Kaeding was born in Suffern, New York. She attended Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Upon graduation, she began pursuing a graduate degree while working with the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program within the Cobb County Juvenile Court System. A relocation to Chicago brought her back to Benedictine University where she worked as a coordinator for the University’s Adult Accelerated Undergraduate Program. Mrs. Kaeding has a Certification in Developmental Observation from the Gesell Institute.
Ms. Debora E. Brown
- Director of Business & Finance
Ms. Brown joined Holy Spirit in July, 2007. She is a native of Atlanta with 25 years of experience in the Finance/Accounting field and was formerly Chief Financial Officer for Commercial Bank of Georgia. Most recently she was the Comptroller for D.C. Woodley & Associates, Inc. She is an alumni of Georgia Institute of Technology and a Phi Kappa Theta Little Sister, Gamma Tau Chapter. She has served on the Finance Committee and has been Audit Committee Chair for St. Martin in the Fields her parish for over 30 years. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors of the Northlake Community Alliance. Ms. Brown is the proud mother of Blair Brown graduated in the HSP class of 2008.
Mrs. Karen Browning - Executive Assistant to President
Mrs. Browning officially joined the HSPS family in October, 1999. Her husband, Capt. Tom Browning (ret. Fulton County PD), recently retired from the HSPS Social Sciences department. Karen & Tom have one daughter, Emily. Emily began her HSP career in kindergarten and will graduate in 2013.
Ms. Emily F. Maranville - Assistant to the Upper School Principal
Ms. Maranville was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia. She graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. Upon graduation, she took a position in medical billing and transcription at Atlanta Addictive Disease and Psychiatric Medicine Associates until the birth of her second child in 1994. She has been involved as a volunteer, in various activities, at the school for the past 12 years. Mrs. Maranville will be the Assistant to the Upper School Principal starting in the 2011-2012 school year. Prior to her current position, she worked as an assistant in the Business Office. She has three sons; Joe graduated from Holy Spirit with the class of 2008, George - class of 2012 and Frank – class of 2014. She strongly believes in the mission of the school and enjoys attending Cougar football and basketball games.
Mrs. Marylu Valek -
Assistant to Principal / Office Manager- Lower School
Marylu Valek grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, the oldest of six children. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Ct. She was employed for 20 years by Aetna Life & Casualty, Inc. in their Information Technology department until the birth of her daughter, Erin. Mrs. Valek, her husband, Jack, and daughter, Erin, moved to Atlanta in March, 2000. Erin is in the class of 2012. The Valeks are St. Jude the Apostle parishioners.
Mrs. Elizabeth Winkler - Georgia Goal & Events Coordinator
Mrs. Winkler joined Holy Spirit Prep in 2006. She and her husband, Jim, moved to Atlanta in 1994. Mrs. Winkler attended the University of Iowa where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing/management. Prior to joining Holy Spirit Prep, Mrs. Winkler owned and managed her own personal training business and raised five children. She is an avid runner and takes time to do at least one marathon a year. Prior to joining the Development Office, she worked in Admissions at Holy Spirit Prep. Mrs. Winkler is responsible in managing school-wide events such as Fellowship dinners, the Annual Fund Run, and other special class dinners. Additionally, she creates and delivers outside advertising pieces for Holy Spirit Prep and oversees the GOAL Scholarship Program that provides scholarships to incoming Holy Spirit Prep Students. She is also involved in the GRACE Scholars program for the Arch diocese and coordinates volunteers and helps with promotional materials. She and her husband have 4 children who still attend Holy Spirit Preparatory School in the classes 2013, 2015, 2020, 2023. Her oldest child graduated with the class of 2010.
Mrs.
Kelly Sickafoose - Registrar
Mrs. Sickafoose was born in Kansas City, Kansas. Her family moved to Atlanta in 1975, where she graduated from Dunwoody High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Physical Education from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Upon graduation she began her thirteen-year stint in higher education administration, ending at Vanderbilt University as a Financial Aid Counselor. Mrs. Sickafoose is excited to be back in the education atmosphere. She joined Holy Spirit Preparatory School in April, 2003, and enjoys being at Holy Spirit Prep with her husband, Mike, their three sons, Michael - Class of 2009, Daniel - Class of 2010, and Christopher - Class of 2012, three nieces and one nephew.
Ms. Shirley L. Ward - Finance Assistant
Ms. Shirley L. Ward was born in Miami, Florida. She grew up in Port- Au Prince, Haiti, WI where she attended catholic school. At age 13, she moved to New York City. She holds an Associate of Science degree from Colorado Tech University and is currently pursuing her accounting degree at the University Of Phoenix, Sandy Spring Campus. Prior to joining Holy Spirit Preparatory School in May 2008, she served in the United States Army from October 26, 1997 to February 16, 2005 and the United States Army Reserve from February 17, 2005 to February 17, 2008. In addition to her finance department duties, Ms. Ward is the administrative officer for the NATC Squadron Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) and the Executive Officer for the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) based out of Holy Spirit Preparatory School. Shirley and her daughter, Shantell (HSP Class of 2020), relocated to Sandy Springs, GA in March of 2007. They are members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where Ms. Ward is a 5th grade religious education teacher, Eucharistic minister, a member of the St. Stephen Ministry and a member of the Transportation Ministry. She gladly volunteers for many school and church functions. Shirley truly feels blessed to be part of the Holy Spirit community.
Mrs. Judy Goyer - Finance Assistant
Mrs. Goyer was born and raised in Chicago, IL. where she attended business school, with a focus on bookkeeping. Mrs. Goyer is the mother of five adult children and grandmother of two. She enjoys traveling and reading. Her previous experience was in the transportation industry and she joined the Holy Spirit Prep financial staff in August 2011.
Mrs.
Joana Dutcher - School Nurse
After receiving her BSN nursing degree from the Superior School of Nursing in Oporto, Portugal, Mrs. Dutcher pursued her nursing career as a hospital nurse and a public health nurse. She also worked at the Dow Portugal chemical plant as the plant nurse. In 1997 Mrs. Dutcher moved to the United States with her family and continued to work in the health field. She is an active member of the Association of Private School Nurses and the Georgia Association of School Nurses. She and her husband, Ron, live in Marietta with their two children, and are members of the Catholic Church of St. Ann. Their daughter, Giselle, is a junior in college, and their son, Diogo, is a student at Holy Spirit Prep in the Class of 2009.
Mrs.
Molly Walker - Webmaster & On-Line Systems Manager
Mrs. Walker joined Holy Spirit Prep in 2005. She and her husband, Jimmy, are native Atlantans.
Mrs. Walker attended St. Jude the Apostle Catholic School, The Marist School and graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems. Prior to joining Holy Spirit Prep, Mrs. Walker was an International Marketing CRM Manager for UPS. During her corporate career, Mrs. Walker was involved in systems development as well as various other technology training and education responsibilities.
At Holy Spirit Prep, Mrs. Walker is the
Webmaster and she manages various
technology-related projects.
Previously at Holy Spirit Prep, she helped
develop the technology and computer science curriculum
and taught programming and robotics courses
at the Upper School.
